Monica Rizzi is MCEC’s new GM of operations, moving over from Harry the hirer where she was general manager for events in Melbourne for more than eight and a half years.
With over 20 years of experience, Rizzi also previously worked for Crown Melbourne for more than six and a half years, Dann Event Hire for three and a half years and Atlantic Group for a year and a half.
Her new position at MCEC is a new role for the venue.
“Monica is an accomplished leader with a proven track record of delivering exceptional operational outcomes and leading high-performing teams,” said Lauren Milsop, chief operating officer for the Victorian Convention and Event Trust (VCET), which runs MCEC.
“As we continue to grow, Monica’s extensive industry experience and customer focus will be invaluable in helping us deliver exceptional experiences for our customers and visitors.”
Meanwhile VCET, which also runs the just-opened Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Events Centre, has also enlarged its business development team, working across both venues as it looks to drive more business out of the domestic market as well as international markets like China and India.
Sandra Lady is VCET’s new head of business development, moving down from Darwin, where she led business development for Darwin Convention Centre for eight years. Lady also has extensive experience in the US market, including as director of sales for Los Angeles Convention Center.
Also new into VCET’s business development team are Rose Ryan Earles, Nicoleta Giurgiu and Pinky Brown, who have all joined the team in the last few months, bringing experience from Crown Melbourne, Phillip Island Nature Parks and more.
“We are focused on creating new opportunities, strengthening partnerships and delivering value for our customers while showcasing Victoria’s exceptional business events capabilities across two world-class venues,” said Lady.
