Part of Collection by TFE Hotels, The Calile in Brisbane placed 25th on the list, while Marriott International property The Tasman came in at 49th.
Capella Bangkok topped the list, with Passalacqua in Lake Como, Italy, coming in second and Rosewood Hong Kong third.
The list is determined by a panel of 600 travel experts, including hospitality professionals, travel journalists and luxury and other travellers, who each cast seven votes for the best hotels they have stayed in around the world in the last 18 months.
The Calile is on the list for the second year in a row, although its position has slid slightly, from 12th place last year.
The 175-room hotel in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley has several event spaces including an indoor Grand Room that can seat 300 in theatre and a rooftop space which can accommodate 180 for a banquet.
“To have been selected two years in a row marks a significant affirmation of The Calile’s place on the global hotel industry stage,” said The Calile’s co-owner Catherine Malouf, who attended the World’s 50 Best Hotels awards ceremony in London this week, alongside the hotel’s general manager Chris Kemlo.
“This is a win for our team, our collaborators, our loyal guests and a win for Brisbane as a destination, and we are humbled to again represent Australia and be recognised as leading in the Oceania region,” said Malouf.
Set on a heritage site with contemporary additions, the other Australian property on the list, The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, opened in late 2021 with 152 rooms and four event spaces. The largest space can seat 110 in theatre, while the other three spaces offer more intimate settings for smaller groups.
The general manager of The Tasman, Stephen Morahan, said the hotel reflects its setting.
“Tasmania has long been a jewel in Australia’s crown as a place to experience natural and epicurean delights, and fabulous warm friendly hospitality,” he said.
“The Tasman embodies these experiences and to be celebrated on the world’s stage is not only a testament to our offerings but those of the entire state.”
A second Luxury Collection property in Australia is set for the Gold Coast in 2027, with 122 rooms and “expansive” event space.
