Glass replaces former Tourism Australia executive general manager of events, Penny Lion, who is leaving the board due to other professional commitments.
Glass spent nearly 11 years heading up corporate affairs, communication and sustainability for Sydney’s convention centre and has since founded an advisory business focussed on CSR strategy, impact measurement and strategic communications. She is also a PhD candidate at the University of Technology Sydney, with her research centring on the societal value of events.
Glass was previously on the ABEA board from 2024 to 2025.
“We’re delighted to welcome Samantha back to the board and look forward to the contribution she will make,” said ABEA’s board chair, Peter King.
“Samantha has dedicated her career to bringing together industry, government and key stakeholders to advance the business events sector.
“She has an exceptional ability to translate research and industry priorities into meaningful advocacy, while her experience across communications, sustainability and stakeholder engagement will further the work ABEA is doing on behalf of members.”
Glass said she was excited to be on the ABEA board again.
“ABEA has played an important role in bringing our industry together under a single national voice, and I’m excited to support its continued advocacy on behalf of members,” she said.
“Business events create lasting economic, social and community benefits, and I look forward to working with the board to continue strengthening the industry’s voice and demonstrating its value.”
King also acknowledged and thanked Lion for her contribution to the association.
“Penny’s professionalism and experience have been invaluable. She has contributed at so many levels including being the chair of the nominations committee,” he said.
