The plan includes potential hotel development, new entertainment and hospitality venues, expansion of park rides, high density housing and a retirement home.
The state government took over the approvals process for the preliminary development application lodged by Coast Entertainment Holdings in 2023 – known as Ardent Leisure at the time – from the City of Gold Coast last year and announced the approval of the DA today.
“This approval gives Dreamworld the certainty it needs to invest in its future, create jobs and secure this iconic Queensland destination for generations to come,” said Queensland’s Deputy Premier and its state development, infrastructure and planning minister, Jarrod Bleijie.
“Queensland is open for business again, and we’re backing projects that create jobs, attract investment, increase housing supply and strengthen our tourism industry.
“This approval is about more than one project – it’s about giving investors the confidence that Queensland has a government focused on delivery, not delay.
“A stronger economy means a better lifestyle for Queenslanders, and that’s exactly what we’re delivering by backing projects that support jobs, tourism and housing ahead of the 2032 Games.”
The master plan covers both Dreamworld and WhiteWater World. The site already has a substantial offering for business events, including the 1,500m2 Dreamworld Exhibition Centre, as well as the ability to hire out several other unique spaces within Dreamworld for events.
“This precinct stands out as one of the most compelling mixed-use development opportunities in the country,” said Dreamworld CEO, Greg Yong, of the approval of the Dreamworld master plan.
“With a shortage of quality hotel accommodation between the northern Gold Coast and Brisbane, and momentum building towards the 2032 Games, we’re well placed to help close that gap, while also delivering new amenity, jobs and much-needed housing close to heavy rail.
“We welcome the Queensland Government’s support for private investment that helps drive sustainable growth.”
