The Western Australian Government is offering grants of up to $100,000 each to fund feasibility work on new unique accommodation projects.
Grants can be used to engage with Traditional Owners, for ocean and cultural heritage assessments, flora and fauna and site surveys and for master planning.
“Our incredibly unique landscapes and experiences right up and down the entire coastline really put us on the global map and have made us a highly sought after destination,” said WA’s tourism minister, Rita Saffioti.
“We want to capitalise on these advantages, which is why we’re inviting tourism operators and developers to consider how they can develop unique accommodation across WA, which will further support the tourism industry and our efforts to diversify our economy and create local jobs.”
The UTAP Program is part of the state government’s $17.7 million National Park Tourism Experiences Development (NPTED) Program, which aims to encourage the development of culturally and environmentally sensitive accommodation in unique places.
The NPTED Program played a role in the just-announced collaboration between Abercrombie & Kent and the Billingjul Aboriginal Corporation that will see an eco-lodge built in the Purnululu National Park, home of the Bungle Bungles in the Kimberley.
Applications for the Unique Tourist Accommodation Proposals Program close on May 2, 2025.
