Talent changes at W Melbourne and The Star
W Melbourne has boosted its sales team and there’s been a resignation at The Star Gold Coast.

W Melbourne boosts its sales team

W Melbourne has added four new faces and promoted an existing staff member in its sales team.

Teigan Slater has been appointed as the director of sales and distribution for the luxury Melbourne hotel, moving over from IHG Hotels and Resorts, where she was in a director of sales role. Previously, she has also held business development and sales roles with The Island Gold Coast and Accor.

Already working within the Marriott International portfolio, Macey Button has been appointed as account director at W Melbourne. She has worked for Marriott for nearly five years, across a variety of Melbourne properties.

Jess Hall and Ken Price have both been appointed as sales managers at W Melbourne. While Price has been promoted from sales executive, Hall joins the team from IHG Hotels and Resorts, with whom she spent over a decade, working primarily in Melbourne and with years of experience in events sales.

Sherena Mulgrave has also been appointed as the wedding and social sales manager.

“We’re proud to welcome this new wave of talent to W Melbourne,” said W Melbourne’s general manager, Krister Svensson.

“As general manager, it’s thrilling to watch how new energy can motivate new ideas and drive the passion to deliver exceptional guest experiences.”

The Star Gold Coast’s CEO resigns

Jessica Mellor, CEO of The Star Gold Coast, has resigned and will step down towards the end of May.

Mellor was The Star Gold Coast’s first CEO, appointed in October 2023 after The Star Entertainment Group decided to put in CEOs at each of its three properties. She had been working with the property as its youngest and first female COO since 2019.

“Jessica has led The Star Gold Coast through some challenging times including through COVID and has been instrumental in developing the Gold Coast property into an iconic world class integrated destination resort with our joint venture partners,” said The Star’s executive chair, David Foster.

While a search for her replacement is underway, Ian Brown, general manager of gaming at The Star Gold Coast will step up as interim CEO for the property, with Mellor providing support until September 2024.
