A new pass providing unlimited bus and train travel in Auckland for business events delegates has been launched during MEETINGS.

The Hui Pass has been developed through a collaboration between Auckland Transport and Auckland Convention Bureau and comes just ahead of the opening of Auckland’s City Rail Link.

The pass, priced at $20, provides unlimited travel for delegates for five days and can be bought in bulk by event organisers.

In a survey of international business events delegates, 70 per cent said they would likely use public transport while in Auckland for an event. A trial of the pass saw 83 per cent of passes that were collected used, with delegates averaging 9.1 trips each.

“The Hui Pass meets the needs of a growing visitor market and supports global competitiveness,” said Auckland Transport’s group manager of public transport operations, Rachel Cara.

“Importantly, it helps reduce congestion and emissions, while supporting Auckland’s climate goals.

“The Hui Pass is designed to make getting around Auckland simple and intuitive for delegates, removing barriers to using public transport.

“With an easy way to travel between venues and across the city, they can spend less time thinking about transport and more time experiencing Auckland.”

Following the debut of the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) in February this year, Auckland is expecting to host more business events delegates, building on the 300,000 that currently meet in the city each year.

“With the opening of the New Zealand International Convention Centre to complement our existing venues such as the Aotea Centre, and the City Rail Link strengthening connectivity, Auckland is entering a new era for business events,” said Auckland Convention Bureau head, Ken Pereira.

“The Hui Pass supports this by enabling seamless, more sustainable travel.

“By removing barriers to public transport, the Hui Pass helps delegates spend less time navigating logistics and more time engaging with Auckland’s events, culture and hospitality. It makes it easy to move between venues, accommodation and experiences across the region.”

The City Rail Link, expected to open later this year, will see two new underground stations open in the Auckland city centre, improving access to various pockets of the CBD.
