Taking place in the lead-up to the United Nations’ climate conference COP31 in November, the Global Citizen meeting in Perth will focus on the energy transition, bringing together leaders in government, business, philanthropy and First Nations communities.
“We are entering the age of electricity and Western Australia has a unique opportunity to become a renewable energy powerhouse,” said Western Australia’s Premier, Roger Cook, in a video announcing the event for Perth.
“As the world electrifies, we have the resources, infrastructure, expertise and innovation needed to help power that transition,” said Cook.
“Global Citizen NOW: Perth will be a platform to turn that potential into reality, bringing together leaders, investors and innovators to forge new partnerships, accelerate electrification, secure clean energy and drive meaningful action.
“Western Australia is built on partnerships and powering global industries. We’ve always been a state of energy. An energy that has inspired a long history of economic security, stability and reliability on the world stage. The clean energy future isn’t coming, it’s already underway and Perth will be the platform to show the world what’s possible.”
With eliminating extreme poverty and protecting the planet the two major pillars of Global Citizen’s advocacy, the organisation has been running summits since 2022, originally just in the US, before Melbourne held the first international iteration. Since then, Global Citizen NOW summits have been held in South America and Europe as well as the US.
“Events like Global Citizen NOW are a great opportunity for WA – they bring people here from around the world, support local businesses and jobs, and give us a chance to show off what makes our state great,” said WA’s tourism minister, Reece Whitby.
“Business events don’t just fill our hotel rooms; they bring together people, ideas, and investment, which is why we’ve backed Business Events Perth with an extra $10 million to help attract more major events that deliver economic benefits for Western Australia.”
The $10 million in funding was part of the WA budget, announced in May.
Global Citizen NOW: Perth will be held October 18-20, 2026.
