Steve Dimopoulos, who has been Victoria’s minister for tourism, sport and major events since 2022, will pick up the economic growth and jobs ministry but drop the tourism portfolio, alongside the environment and recreation portfolios.
The new minister for tourism will be Natalie Suleyman, who takes on the responsibilities for tourism in addition to retaining her existing veterans portfolio and adopting a changed responsibility for small and family business and employment. However, she will no longer be the minister for youth.
Suleyman is the daughter of Turkish Cypriot immigrants and was the first Muslim woman elected to state parliament in Victoria. Prior to joining state politics in 2014, Suleyman was a three-term mayor of Brimbank City Council in Melbourne’s west.
“I’m excited to keep working to grow the tourism industry across Victoria – bringing more visitors to our towns, supporting local jobs, and backing small and family businesses,” she said on Facebook following been sworn into her new roles.
“From our regional destinations to the best city in the world, Victoria has so much to offer and we will continue supporting jobs and backing our incredible communities.”
