The Venue Management Association for Asia Pacific has elected four new board members.

Among them is ICC Sydney’s senior manager for live events, Michelle Zangari, alongside Mark Jones, Melbourne Cricket Ground’s GM of finance and performance, Geordie Miles, Spark Event Group’s founder and CEO, and Houri Tapiki, the GM of Theatre Royal Sydney.

ICC Sydney’s CEO, Adam Mather-Brown, praised Zangari’s appointment.

“Michelle is an exceptional leader whose passion for live events, commitment to excellence and deep industry knowledge make her an outstanding addition to the VMA board.

“Her appointment is a testament to her dedication to the venue industry and the respect she has earned across the sector.

“We are incredibly proud to see her represent ICC Sydney and contribute to shaping the future of our profession.”

Zangari said she was “proud” to be joining the association’s board.

“I believe the VMA board plays a vital role in strengthening industry capability and developing future leaders, and I’m committed to thoughtful governance, supporting emerging talent and ensuring diverse voices are represented as we shape the future of modern venue management,” she said.

Her fellow new board member Miles from Spark Event Group echoed her sentiment.

“The Venue Management Association has my deep respect – its mission to advance the venue and events industry, and the people who power it, means a lot to me,” Miles wrote on LinkedIn.

“I’m proud to now play a small part as a board member.

“I join a group of truly distinguished directors, some I’ve had the privilege of knowing for years, others I’m looking forward to working with for the first time. I look forward to learning and contributing alongside a group with unrivalled experience and expertise.

“Above all, I’m delighted to represent the members of the association – the professionals dedicated to the future of this industry.

“Thank you to the VMA and to those who voted, congratulations to those leaving the board for your immeasurable service and well done to the other new board members.”
