Hotel Indigo brand debuts in New Zealand
The boutique IHG Hotels & Resorts brand has entered the New Zealand market with the opening of Hotel Indigo Auckland.

The 225-room hotel blends the old and the new, rising above the existing building which was originally a motorcar importer.

Guest rooms with huge windows include nods to the site’s automotive past, including rear-view mirrors above beds, headlamp lighting and upholstery inspired by the interiors of classic cars. The carpets on each floor offer maps of Auckland’s streets.

The hotel is located in one of Auckland’s tallest buildings, spanning 27 of the building’s 41 floors. The hotel also offers a gym and the French-Mediterranean Bistro Saine, helmed by Korean-born, French-trained executive chef, Yutak Son.

“We are thrilled to open New Zealand’s first neighbourhood-inspired Hotel Indigo in midtown Auckland,” said Hotel Indigo Auckland’s general manager, Mathew Simister.

“This boutique brand is deeply connected to the local community, and we’ve proudly woven Auckland’s rich history, art, and culture into every aspect of the hotel.

“From our uniquely designed guest rooms to our signature dining experience at Bistro Saine, we can’t wait for guests to experience everything we have carefully curated to connect them with the neighbourhood.”

While the hotel doesn’t have its own meeting space, it is six minutes’ walk from the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) which is due to open next February.

Ahead of the convention centre’s opening, Auckland’s hotel inventory has grown substantially, with the number of rooms in the city growing by 23 per cent since 2019.
