First announced in December 2025, the new-build space sits alongside the 152-room hotel in Parliament Square. The venue was designed by the same architects that brought the hotel to life.
LUMINA can host groups of 220 for standing events, 180 in theatre or 190 for a gala dinner. It is the largest space amongst The Tasman’s five meeting venues, with the others able to host groups of between 20 and 110.
“LUMINA marks an exciting new chapter for The Tasman and for Hobart’s events landscape,” said The Tasman’s general manager Carolyn Smith.
“It gives us the opportunity to bring the hotel’s signature service, culinary identity and destination into a dedicated events setting.
“Since enquiries opened in November last year, we have seen strong interest from corporate, incentive and private event clients. We are delighted to have already secured 40 events.
“LUMINA has been created for event organisers and guests who are looking for more than a room. It is a setting that can be completely personalised, supported by the full hospitality experience of The Tasman.”
With LUMINA’s opening taking place on Thursday, both Tasmania’s premier, Jeremy Rockliff, and head of Business Events Tasmania, Marnie Craig, have praised the new space.
“I whole-heartedly congratulate the entire team behind LUMINA,” said Rockliff.
“Our government recognises how significant private investment is for jobs and our economy.
“LUMINA is testament to this, with private investment transforming Parliament Square into a world-class precinct.”
Meanwhile Craig said LUMINA would bolster Tasmania’s appeal for incentives.

The Tasman has already been recognised on the world stage, listed 49th amongst the World’s 50 Best Hotels in 2024.
