The three properties will open between 2027 and 2029.
The first to open will be the 135-room Rotorua Marriott Hotel, which will emerge from the conversion of the Arawa Park Hotel Rotorua on Fenton St. Marking Marriott’s entry into Rotorua, the hotel is set to have a year-long refurbishment before it opens as a Marriott late next year.
In Auckland, a historic building on Eden Crescent will be converted into The Official Auckland, Autograph Collection. The hotel will have 82 rooms and is slated for a 2028 opening. The property is about 1.3km from the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC).
A second conversion is on the cards in Wellington, with a 1940s office building to become the 118-room Fable Wellington, Autograph Collection. The property, at the corner of Lambton Quay and Stout Street, about 1.3km from Wellington’s convention centre, is scheduled to open in 2029.
“Today’s signing of three hotel deals with CP Group is a landmark advancement of Marriott International’s strengthening relationship with one of New Zealand’s most prolific hotel investors,” said Marriott International’s vice president of hotel development, Richard Crawford.
“Securing another foothold in Auckland, plus inaugural hotels in the key markets of Wellington and Rotorua, are outstanding outcomes for our strategic growth aspirations in New Zealand.”
Marriott currently has two open hotels in New Zealand – the JW Marriott Auckland and Four Point by Sheraton Auckland. A further two are already in the works and expected to open next year – Sheraton Christchurch, close to the city’s convention centre, and Moxy Auckland.
“As one of New Zealand’s most distinctive tourism destinations, Rotorua Marriott Hotel is set to raise the bar in accommodation for visitors to this iconic region,” said CP Hotels COO, Paul Richardson.
“Marriott Hotels is one of the world’s most recognisable hotel brands, so this is indeed a watershed moment for Rotorua.
“Our Wellington and Auckland hotels will…[deliver] much-needed new premium hotel supply to these key cities and [expand] the impressive portfolio of properties under our own Fable Hotels brand.”
