Gold Coast welcomes return of major conference after Tropical Cyclone Alfred
The Gold Coast will host about 6,000 delegates this week for the 2025 Australian Pharmacy Professional Conference and Trade Exhibition (APP2025).

The event is returning to the Gold Coast for its third straight year and will be held at Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC).

The large event is timely for the centre and the Gold Coast after Tropical Cyclone Alfred forced the temporary closure of the convention centre in the lead-up to its landfall, impacting a couple of events, while the Gold Coast more broadly felt the impact of the wild weather.

The conference is expected to inject $14.5 million into the Gold Coast economy.

“Queensland remains open for business. There’s no better demonstration of this than hosting the largest pharmacy conference in the southern hemisphere,” said Queensland’s tourism minister, Andrew Powell.

“We anticipate that the event will generate around 25,000 direct visitor nights, with delegates and visitors to the city for the trade show making the most of their time here.

“Hosting this conference has always been a fantastic opportunity for Queensland and the wider Australian pharmaceutical sector.

“It strengthens our position as a hub for innovation whilst also supporting our local economy.

“Broadbeach and the broader city have bounced back quickly, with our hotels, restaurants and attractions back open and ready to welcome guests from all over the world.”

The sentiment of the minister’s comments was echoed by Experience Gold Coast’s executive director of events, Avril Harris.

“The Gold Coast remains a safe, vibrant and welcoming destination, offering hundreds of world-class experiences and our industry partners are ready to welcome delegates,” she said.

“Between inspiring keynote speakers and presentations, delegates can enjoy the city’s superb food, wine, coffee and craft brews, get up close with local wildlife, explore world-class art at HOTA or indulge in some retail therapy at our premier shopping centres.”

Meanwhile the conference convenor for APP2025, Kos Sclavos AM, said this year’s event would be “one of the most significant in APP history”.

“With the largest gathering of pharmacy students ever attending and following a year of significant impact in our industry, the future of community pharmacy is brighter than ever,” he said.
