The refurbishment will include the hotel’s event spaces, the largest of which can banquet up to 640 delegates, as well as Atrium Garden Restaurant, the lobby and some other public spaces within the property.
The works will proceed in stages, with the hotel’s 300 guest rooms and suites and its two bars – the Marine Lounge Bar and Ball & Chain – to remain open throughout.
“Esplanade Hotel Fremantle has long been part of the fabric of this city, welcoming leisure guests, families, conference delegates, weddings and major events for generations,” said the hotel’s general manager, Jacqueline Comb.
“As the building approaches its 130-year anniversary, it feels like the right moment to honour its history while preparing it for the next generation of guests.
“This refurbishment is about enhancing the experience while preserving the character that makes the hotel so special.
“We are investing in spaces that will feel refreshed, functional and future-ready, from dining and public areas through to some of our most important event venues.”
Refurbishment of the event spaces will include a significant AV upgrade, including the installation of LED walls as well as upgraded lighting. The property’s in-house AV supplier, AVPartners, has recently been introducing large-scale LED walls to a number of other hotels it works in.
The Esplanade Hotel Fremantle has three main event spaces, which can each be split into three, three other smaller spaces, including two boardrooms, and a private dining room. The hotel’s outdoor pool area can also host cocktail events of up to 400 people.
The Southern Cross Gala Ballroom can accommodate 940 delegates in theatre or 640 for banquets and has a six-metre ceiling.
With the event spaces to be upgraded in stages, different event spaces will be available at the hotel throughout the refurbishment.
The refurbishment work is expected to be complete in the middle of 2027.
