Darwin Convention Centre will host the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) 33rd Triennial World Conference in 2032.

Darwin beat out competition from New Zealand, Iceland and Kenya to secure the hosting rights, through a partnership between the convention centre, NT Business Events and the Country Women’s Association of the Northern Territory.

The event is expected to draw more than 500 delegates and have a $3.5 million direct delegate spend impact for Darwin.

“Hosting this global conference in Darwin is a major achievement for the Northern Territory and a powerful opportunity to welcome rural women from across the globe,” said the NT’s Department of Tourism and Hospitality CEO, Suzana Bishop.

“It provides a meaningful setting to celebrate strength, community and collaboration, values which are deeply embedded in both the territory and ACWW.

“This global conference will bring hundreds of international delegates to the NT, supporting the Visitor Economy Strategy 2032 by expanding our reach beyond traditional holidaymakers and positioning the territory as a destination for world‑class business events, cultural exchange and knowledge‑sharing.”

Ahead of the 2032 event, Darwin has also won the ACWW Pacific Area Conference in 2027, which has an anticipated attendance of 200 delegates.

“On behalf of the Pacific Area, we are delighted that Darwin has been selected to host the 2032 ACWW Triennial Conference,” said the Pacific Area president of ACWW, Mary Pocock.

“This is a proud moment for our region and highlights the strength and leadership of rural women across the Pacific.

“We look forward to welcoming our global community to Darwin for a conference that will foster connection, collaboration and lasting impact.”

The ACWW advocates, amongst other things, for equal access to education for women, the protection of Indigenous languages and the preservation of traditional and inherited knowledge.

“This will be the first conference after our Centenary in 2029, and with the long and passionate history of support and engagement from local members of the Country Women’s Association, as well as the positive relationships already established with the community and the traditional Larrakia landowners, we couldn’t think of a more wonderful opportunity to celebrate the start of our second centenary of impact as rural women in action,” said ACWW world president, Marie Kenny.

“We are excited to see what our members can contribute to the local community as we learn from each other, share our experiences and amplify the voices of rural women from around the world.”

The ACWW World Conference is one of 51 meetings that NT Business Events has helped secure for the Northern Territory in the current financial year. Collectively, these wins are worth over $80 million to the NT’s economy.
