Brisbane expecting a major economic boost from business events in 2024
Business events in Brisbane are anticipated to inject $94 million into the economy this year.

Many of the conferences scheduled for the city are from the health and sciences realm, including the Health Services Research Conference, Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) 2024 National Conference, digital health conference, HIC, which is being held for the first time in five years, and the Society for the Neurobiology of Language Annual Meeting.

Brisbane Economic Development Agency’s CEO, Anthony Ryan, said Brisbane’s medical offering was influencing Brisbane’s profile in the business events space.

“As one of the largest hospital and healthcare clusters in the southern hemisphere, and home to more than 100 health and biotech facilities, Brisbane’s world-leading health and life sciences industry and expertise is driving interest from global events in this sector,” he said.

International conferences set for Brisbane this year include the World Down Syndrome Congress, the Zonta International Conference, which aims to build a better world for women and girls, engineering meeting, the International Conference on Molten Slags, Fluxes and Salts (MOLTEN) which is held every four years, the International Symposium on Electronic Art and International Symposium on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Automation in Space.

Professional conference organisers from Australia and New Zealand are also slated to visit the city in December, when the Professional Conference Organisers Association hosts its annual conference at Queen’s Wharf, which is expected to open in August.

“Brisbane’s reputation as a leading location to host events is continuing to grow across the globe,” said Brisbane Lord Mayor, Adrian Schrinner.

“Last year we saw the return of international conferences across industries such as science, health, technology, transport, and agriculture, along with strong expressions of interest from new events to secure Brisbane as a conference destination.

“As our city continues to secure high-profile events, Brisbane is refining its hotel, venue and lifestyle offering to offer an unparalleled delegate experience.

“From the fantastic offerings of Howard Smith Wharves, to improved public transport with the launch of Brisbane Metro this year, Brisbane is the premier events destination for business and leisure.

“We are also supporting our conference and incentives markets through new and expanded aviation routes to Brisbane from key markets, including China and North America,” said Schrinner.
