BESydney locks in record delegate spend

BESydney has secured a former South Australian Premier as a business events ambassador for Sydney as it announces a record for the value of bids won this financial year.

Sydney’s business events bidding agency has secured 102 international and national events for the city over this financial year, worth an anticipated $340 million in delegate spend. As well as being a 45 per cent increase on the value secured the year prior, it’s an all-time record result for BESydney.

The result release came in tandem with BESydney’s annual Global Ambassador Dinner, held late last week, at which BESydney appointed six new ambassadors alongside celebrating the efforts of existing members of the program who help to position Sydney as an international event host and support conference bids for the city.

Former South Australian Premier, Steven Marshall AO, was amongst the new ambassadors joining the program, alongside the first leader of the Tech Council of Australia, Kate Pounder, director of the Frontier AI Research Centre at Macquarie University, Professor Longbing Cao, Dean of the College of Systems and Society at the Australian National University, Professor Aaron Quigley, Western Sydney University Vice-Chancellor, Professor George Williams AO, and Australian Museum CEO, Kim McKay AO.

“The Global Ambassador program plays an important role in securing major conferences and meetings to position New South Wales as the global business events hub that it is,” said NSW Premier, Chris Minns, who is a patron of the program.

“The calibre and global standing of our ambassadors will help BESydney and the NSW economy unlock the benefits of attracting even more major business events to our great city.”

The Global Ambassador Dinner was held at The Cutaway in Barangaroo, which has just reopened after a two-year renovation. The dinner was the first event of its kind to be held at the venue since reopening, with the space now managed by Sydney’s convention centre, ICC Sydney.

“It is a great honour to welcome BESydney’s Global Ambassadors at the first business event held at The Cutaway in Barangaroo, a spectacular new destination that will undoubtedly enable Sydney to attract even more high-profile events over the years to come,” said ICC Sydney CEO, Adam Mather-Brown.
