MICHELIN Guide coming to South Australia

In a move supported by the state government, restaurants to be included in the MICHELIN Guide South Australia 2027 will be announced this October.

Michelin stars as awarded by inspectors for the MICHELIN Guide are the worldwide standard for critical restaurant acclaim.

With the South Australian MICHELIN guide announced today, inspectors from the guide are already visiting restaurants around the state to assess them for inclusion. Restaurant visits are anonymous and restaurants cannot pay to appear in the guide.

“South Australia offers an impressive diversity of culinary expressions within a single destination,” said the MICHELIN Guide’s international director, Gwendal Poullennec.

“The strength of its identity lies in the freedom chefs enjoy defining their own voice, guided by outstanding produce, a strong relationship to the land and a confident openness to global influences.

“Our inspectors were struck by the authenticity and personality of the region’s dining culture, and we are delighted to spotlight South Australia on the MICHELIN Guide stage.”

The MICHELIN Guide South Australia will be the first time any Australian restaurants have been included in a MICHELIN Guide, although MICHELIN started awarding Golden Keys to Australian hotels last year for its hotel guide.

“We are proud to welcome the MICHELIN Guide to South Australia,” said South Australia’s tourism minister, Emily Bourke.

“The guide has a proven track record as a powerful driver of gastronomic tourism and economic development in the region it covers.”

“This will support our hospitality and tourism sectors which employ thousands of South Australians and give them an advantage over other states,” she said.

“By highlighting some of the state’s best restaurants on a global platform, it aims to give visitors another reason to book a trip to our state, and once they’re here, they’ll go on to experience even more of what South Australia has to offer.

“With its mix of culture, food, wine and natural beauty, South Australia offers a vibrant calendar of food festivals and wine events, celebrating culinary excellence, from city dining experiences to regional gourmet celebrations and we look forward to sharing this with MICHELIN Guide readers around the world.”
