The meeting from the national peak body for the disorder, the Australian Advisory Board on Autism, is expected to attract over 1,500 delegates from more than 30 countries next year.
The win was a collaboration between the South Australian Government, Adelaide Convention Centre, Business Events Adelaide and Autism SA, who will act as the local host.
“South Australia is a leading force in autism inclusion, so I’m proud we have been selected to host the next Asia Pacific Autism Conference in 2027,” said South Australia’s autism minister, Emily Bourke
“It will bring together more than a thousand members of the autistic and autism communities from the across the world, all focussed on building autism inclusion.
“I look forward to welcoming everyone to South Australia and promoting all the excellent work that is being done to support the autistic and autism communities.”
Autism SA CEO, Helen Graham, said it was “incredibly exciting” to be hosting the conference in South Australia, adding that it would make the event “far more accessible for South Australians, with lasting benefits for the community, sector and state”.
“Autism SA is committed to working closely with the autistic and autism community and key stakeholders to plan and deliver an innovative, inclusive and accessible conference that is grounded in lived experience and sets a new benchmark for international autism conferences,” said Graham.
Adelaide has not hosted the conference in more than a decade, with the last iteration to be held in the South Australian capital taking place in 2013.
