New Sydney event venues open

The Lands by Capella made its stage one debut this week, bringing several new event spaces to Sydney’s CBD.

Located just blocks from Circular Quay and Sydney Harbour, the largest of the five event spaces at The Lands by Capella is the Capella Ballroom, able to host up to 250 attendees for galas. A second ballroom, the Liberty Ballroom can accommodate 120 delegates. Both venues have 4.6m ceilings.

Another three smaller meeting suites, also with soaring ceilings, can accommodate between 40 and 80 guests.

First announced in mid-2025, The Lands by Capella is an extension of luxury hotel Capella Sydney, which sits across the road from the new events, culinary, cultural and retail precinct.

“We are honoured to reintroduce this landmark building as a setting for Sydney’s next generation of meaningful and impactful events,” said Capella Sydney’s general manager, Marc von Arnim.

“There is strong demand for distinctive venues that elevate corporate gatherings and large-scale events by offering both heritage significance and contemporary capability.”

“Since our initial announcement, event enquiries have increased by 85 per cent, with our first quarter already at capacity.

“This reflects robust domestic and international demand across sectors including finance, pharmaceuticals, private equity, luxury brands, fashion and healthcare, with major global brands securing events and couples committing without having experienced the spaces in person.”

The event spaces are just phase one of opening for The Lands by Capella, which will, by the end of 2026, offer more than 10,000m2 of restaurants, bars, retail, cultural activations and event space.

Both Capella Sydney and The Lands by Capella are set within historic Sydney buildings – the hotel is within the Department of Education building, while The Lands by Capella is in the former Department of Lands building.

In November last year, the 192-key Capella Sydney was ranked as the 12th best hotel in the world in the World’s 50 Best Hotels, which also made it the highest placed Australian hotel on the list.
