Sporting events, festivals and cultural offerings in Sydney and across New South Wales are anticipated to generate a major cash injection this weekend.

At Accor Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park, 82,000 people are expected to attend the NRL and NRLW Grand Finals on Sunday, with all tickets sold out.

Meanwhile in Camden, in Sydney’s outer southwest, 1,600 riders are expected to take part in the AusCycling BMX National Championships, starting Monday, with a total of 4,000 people in Camden for the event.

In regional NSW, there are festivals scheduled for the long weekend in multiple destinations, including the Deni Ute Muster, which, according to Destination NSW, is on track to sell out for the first time ever with a 20,000 strong attendance.

Other regional festivals include the Wanderer Festival in Pambula, expected to draw around 9,000 attendees, the first Horizontal Festival in the Southern Highlands, the final weekend of New Annual in Newcastle and the Goin’ to Gil Festival weekend in Gilgandra.

The Touch Football National Youth Championships is also taking place in Coffs Harbour, with 7,000 participants, spectators and officials involved.

Added to this are several exhibitions and musicals in Sydney, which combined with the event calendar are estimated to bring in almost $60 million in revenue.

“The Labour Day long weekend will be one for the record books thanks to the Minns Labor Government’s targeted support for events that deliver economic, social and cultural benefits across NSW,” said the state’s tourism minister, Steve Kamper.

“Our NSW Visitor Economy Strategy 2035 provides a clear mandate for delivering a year-round calendar of world-class events that drive visitation, support jobs and boost the businesses that rely on our growing visitor economy.

“This unforgettable line-up will not only strengthen our identity as Australia’s home of world-class cultural and sporting experiences, but it will also ensure restaurants, hotels, cafes, pubs and clubs are buzzing right across NSW this October long weekend.”
