Hunt retired last month, after more than three decades in the hotel industry, having joined Sheraton Grand Mirage Gold Coast as an assistant head butcher in 1987.
His replacement Nuell has relocated from Singapore to Sydney to take on the area vice president role.
Nuell has been with Marriott since 2003. His first role was as director of food and beverage for Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort – now the JW Marriott Gold Coast – and he has worked across various properties and countries since then, from Hong Kong to Mumbai, Frankfurt and the USA. A brand expert, he has been focussed on broader brand and area management roles since 2013.
“Jason has held several senior corporate and market leadership positions for Marriott International for over 20 years and has a proven track record on innovation, talent management and driving strong performance,” said Neeraj Govil, Marriott’s COO for the Asia Pacific region, excluding China (APEC).
“His global mindset and passion for delivering customer and associate experiences ideally position him to lead our ANZP operations.”
He moves into his new role from his vice president of customer experience and F&B design services position in Singapore, where he was building the APEC region’s brand team.
“I am looking forward to returning home to Australia to lead Marriott’s expanding footprint in the ANZP region,” said Nuell.
“After 20 years across four continents, a key focus will be to use this experience to build upon the solid pipeline of hotel agreements signed, work effectively with our property management teams to develop brand awareness and guest experience and to drive owner returns across the portfolio.”
Marriott International operates 46 hotels and resorts across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, with six properties opening since March 2023. A further 20 properties are in the pipeline.
