Hyatt Regency Sydney takes on new director of sales and marketing
Australia’s largest hotel – and a major business events property – has appointed Gavin Maloney as its director of sales and marketing.
Having first started in hotels at the Crowne Plaza Terrigal Pacific in 1989, Maloney has held sales and marketing leadership roles in the hotel sector for around two decades in Australia, Europe, the UAE and Asia, mostly with Starwood, before a four-year stint with Shangri-La Hotels and, most recently, a period with TFE Hotels as a general manager in Auckland.
“We are thrilled to welcome Gavin Maloney to the Hyatt Regency Sydney team,” said Hyatt Regency Sydney’s general manager, Jane Lyons.
“His extensive experience and exceptional leadership skills will undoubtedly enhance our hotel’s sales and marketing capabilities, as we continue to deliver exceptional experiences for our guests and clients.”
Daniella Tonetto joins Hilton
Daniella Tonetto will join Hilton as senior commercial director for Australasia on July 1.
In her new role, Tonetto is responsible for optimising revenue across Hilton’s footprint in Australasia as the hotel group looks to grow its market share.
Tonetto has three decades of experience in the hotels sector, with a variety of revenue, sales and marketing roles to her name, including for the likes of Sheraton Mirage Resort Port Douglas, what is now the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park and The Westin Kuala Lumpur.
She returned to Australia in 2022 after eight years in Macao as general manager of sales and marketing for Sheraton Grand Macao and St. Regis Macao.
TFE Hotels makes a raft of general management appointments
Long-time TFE Hotels staffer Shaarn Letele has been appointed general manager of Adina Apartment Hotel Sydney Darling Harbour.
During his 15 years with TFE, Letele has reopened Travelodge Wellington before taking on general manager roles at Adina Apartment Hotel Sydney Central and Vibe Hotel North Sydney.
Taking over at Vibe North Sydney is Frances Ryall, who joins TFE from IHG, where she was held roles at both Crowne Plaza Coogee and Melbourne’s InterContinental the Rialto.
In Melbourne, Arthur Rojas has taken on a cluster general manager role for Adina Apartment Hotel Melbourne Southbank and Travelodge Melbourne Docklands.
This represents an expansion of his role – he has been GM at the Travelodge property for over five years and with TFE more broadly for 13 years.
Over in New Zealand, Suzanne Pentecost has been appointed general manager of Adina Apartment Hotel Auckland Britomart.
Pentecost has been in the hotels sector for around 20 years in New Zealand, Australia and London, rising to hotel management roles in 2020.
