There’s plenty of opportunities to host events at the eleven South Australian restaurants awarded Michelin stars on Wednesday night.

Magill Estate Restaurant at Penfolds Magill Estate was the only restaurant awarded two Michelin stars.

The newly-minted Michelin-starred executive chef of Magill Estate Restaurant, Scott Huggins, also looks after the menus for events held at Magill Estate, which can accommodate groups of up to 300. Less than 9km from Adelaide’s city centre, the estate has several event spaces, including the Magill Estate Tunnels, which can do cocktail events for 175 people or seated dinners for 90. There is also a gallery space for 30 seated.

The winery can host up to 300 on its lawns in a marquee. When Tourism Australia’s incentive showcase event – then known as Dreamtime – was held in Adelaide in 2023, the closing dinner was hosted on a winding table outdoors at Magill Estate.

The 10 restaurants awarded one Michelin star each were Anvers Restaurant, Maxwell Restaurant, Botanic, Arkhé, Esmay, Aurora At ILA, Hentley Farm, LVN Restaurant at Bird in Hand, Aptos and Skillogalee Barrel House.

Half of the one Michelin-starred restaurants are based at South Australian wineries, with all five able to host private events.

LVN Restaurant at Bird in Hand can host up to 32 for seated degustations or up to 200 for cocktail functions that extend into the gardens or the estate’s barrel hall.

Anvers Restaurant can host events of up to 200 delegates as well as offering private dining for smaller groups.

Maxwell Restaurant at Maxwell Wines can host up to 24 on its deck or up to 40 pax in its restaurant. The estate can also host groups of up to 24 in a subterranean Lime Cave located inside a limestone hill.

Meanwhile, Hentley Farm does events for up to 50 pax while Skillogalee Barrel House can also host business events groups.

Then there’s Botanic in Adelaide Botanic Garden, which offers exclusive use for groups of up to 26. The restaurant has already demonstrated its event hosting abilities to a discerning crowd – at Dreamtime in 2023, Botanic hosted an impressive and inventive media lunch.

Bontanic’s operator, Blanco Horner, is also behind the relatively new Esmay, which offers a private dining room for 30 people seated or 80 standing. Blanco Horner also does offsite event catering, and has previously won two Australian Event Awards for its work.

Meanwhile, Aurora at ILA is set within the immersive event venue that has previously featured in Business Events Adelaide’s flagship famil program, Destination South Australia.

Finally, Arkhé, set just outside Adelaide’s CBD, also caters to private events, while the remaining one-Michelin star restaurant, Aptos, delivers a 16-course tasting menu for just 14 diners per sitting.
