New hotel for Hamilton Island
The Whitsundays island is adding a new boutique hotel, set to open next year.

Called The Sundays, the property will have 59 rooms and is set to be a family friendly alternative to the 57-room Beach Club, which caters only to adults.

The hotel is being built at the north end of Catseye Beach, with every room to feature either a balcony or a terrace. The property will also have its own private pool.

“The Sundays marks over 20 years of continuous significant investment in Hamilton Island by the Oatley family,” said CEO of Hamilton Island Pete Brulisauer.

“It will be a place where you can expect an extraordinary experience for all ages amidst the breathtaking natural beauty of The Whitsundays in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.”

The new hotel is being developed at an estimated cost of over $30 million. This sits alongside the $400 million the Oatley family have invested in the island since acquiring it in 2003.

“We are responding to our guests’ request for more family focused boutique accommodation, in our ideal location,” said Sandy Oatley, chairman of Hamilton Island Enterprises.

“We remain focused on continuing to enhance Hamilton Island’s reputation as one of Australia’s most iconic holiday destinations.”

Although it is not yet clear whether the property will be available for business events buyouts, its existence adds a potential new level for corporate events with families in tow on Hamilton Island, given that the two other luxury or high-end properties on the island – qualia and Beach Club – are both adults only.

Hamilton Island offers significant variety of event venues and spaces, from a purpose-built convention centre to the Beach Pavilion, which was added to the island just before the pandemic.
