Long-time member of Adelaide’s business events and visitor economy industry, Martin Radcliffe will take on the top job at Adelaide Convention Centre in May.

Following the departure of Simon Burgess, Adelaide Venue Management, which operates the convention centre, has appointed Radcliffe to the general manager role of the major business events venue.

Radcliffe, who originally hails from the UK, has held various roles in Adelaide’s accommodation and business events sector over the last 17 years, including director of sales and marketing for both The Playford Adelaide and Adelaide Convention Bureau and general manager of Mayfair Hotel. Most recently Radcliffe started up his own communications business and became chairman of the board for Adelaide Hills Tourism.

“Martin has overcome a highly credentialed field of international candidates to win the Adelaide Convention Centre general manager role,” said Adelaide Venue Management CEO Anthony Kirchner.

“With his impressive background in business events sales at the Adelaide Convention Bureau and senior hospitality experience at some of Adelaide’s leading hotels, he’s the perfect fit for this important leadership position, and will be a fantastic ambassador for South Australia and the Adelaide Convention Centre both nationally and internationally.”

Radcliffe said he was delighted to be joining the convention centre.

“This iconic and progressive venue is very closely aligned to my own passions, skills, experience and networks.

“I believe this is the perfect time to be commencing this role.

“Business events and hospitality markets, both here in Australia and internationally, have certainly re-energised and re-calibrated, and I look forward to working with the Adelaide Convention Centre team to maximise opportunities and deliver exceptional event experiences for our clients,” said Radcliffe.
