Advocacy forum set for IMEX Frankfurt
The Business of Events and the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) will run a session called the Global Advocacy Alliance during the major international trade show for the business events industry.

More than 200 industry leaders are expected to participate in the forum which will feature insights from experts in politics, destinations, consortiums, convention bureaux and venues.

Designed to help the industry advocate to all levels of government – from local to national – the session will address key facets of advocacy, including highlighting economic, social and cultural impact, encouraging corporate engagement, promoting soft power initiatives and how to facilitate government advocacy. The session will also address the need for government advocacy in the business events sector.

“The Global Advocacy Alliance is a key part of ICCA’s commitment to advocacy,” said ICCA CEO Senthil Gopinath.

“We’re thrilled to be able to offer members the opportunity to learn how to more effectively communicate with key stakeholders to advocate for their respective sectors to governments and policymakers.

“By advocating for the best interests of our industry, we contribute to the collective growth and upward trajectory of our community as a whole.”

The Global Advocacy Alliance session will also culminate in the development of a toolkit to help the industry in its advocacy efforts around the world.

“Advocacy is one of the biggest challenges our industry faces and is globally recognised as imperative,” said director of The Business of Events, Martin Fullard, who will chair the event.

“The idea behind this event is to bring together industry leaders to share best practices and create a toolkit for everyone involved to utilise in their advocacy efforts.

“Through this new advocacy alliance, we aim to empower convention bureaus and other stakeholders with the templates and tools they need to effectively engage with policymakers.”
