NAME: Nadia Dambrosi

BUSINESS NAME: Novotel Sydney Darling Square

POSITION: Director of sales and marketing

What are you working on right now in anticipation of a return of events?

Novotel Sydney Darling Square has already welcomed back several smaller events recently, with detailed Covid safe protocols in place aligned with Accor’s ALLSAFE program. In coming weeks our technology offering will be further enhanced, providing likeminded suppliers and event planners with even greater scope to create events showcasing new ways key event bookers can have the very best in face-to-face, hybrid or virtual meeting solutions.

What’s one lesson you have learnt during the COVID-19 lockdown period?

Flexibility and ability to find solutions. Nothing is certain, and both our clients and team accept some things are out of your control and adapt accordingly.

Staying ahead of technology and always looking for innovations to improve processes is also key.

What do you value more now than you may have pre-COVID-19?

Relationships with our clients, colleagues and team have been tremendously important right throughout. It is amazing the good that comes during tough times and the willingness to support anyway people can, even if it is as little as a phone call to touch base, provide guidance or an opportunity to quote for a piece of business.

How do you think events will change in the future?

Hygiene, distancing and technology capability will certainly shape success for operators in the coming 12 months. In the longer term, I believe it will be the learnings and efficiencies which we master of this period which will remain in the longer term. Certainly the virtual world is critical to how we all connect right now, however we are a social and connected world who will always value face-to-face when possible I feel.

Why are events important?

As I mentioned, people crave being with people and thrive off human interaction.  Although the ability for the industry to pivot and adapt is amazing and very much needed during this time, a face-to-face event can deliver for many a more impactful and engaging form of communication.

The most valuable connection can also be that new person you met at the event, maybe they’re your next big client, future mentor or employer.
