Following his sudden departure from Adelaide Convention Centre after almost a decade, including four years at the helm as general manager, Simon Burgess started a new role as General Manager of the National Wine Centre of Australia just down the road from the convention centre this week.
“Looking forward to a fresh challenge and all that lies ahead in this prestigious venue,” Burgess wrote on LinkedIn in celebration of his new role.
The National Wine Centre has a significant events offering, with small and large spaces for between 10 and 1,500 delegates.
Meanwhile at Ovolo Hotels, Dave Baswal has been promoted to CEO of the boutique brand, from his previous position overseeing its presence in Australia and New Zealand.
Baswal, based in Brisbane, is taking over the top job from Ovolo’s founder Girish Jhunjhnuwala who will remain as Executive Chairman.
“Dave Baswal personifies the very best of Ovolo – someone with the passion to constantly improve the guest experience; the creativity to innovate new services; and the business acumen to deliver strong performance,” said Jhunjhnuwala.

Baswal has been with Ovolo for six years and previously worked for Mantra Group.
