StandardX hotel brand gets 2024 debut in Melbourne’s Fitzroy
A new hotel brand visually geared towards Gen-Younger is set to open in inner suburban Melbourne next February.

To be called The StandardX Melbourne, it will mark the launch of the first “X” branded property from Standard International which is based in USA. It already has hotels operating under The Standard brand in New York, Miami, Bangkok, Ibiza and London, amongst others.

First announced for Melbourne in 2021, the hotel has a cool Fitzroy address – less than 10 minutes from the CBD – and is described as ‘the rebellious younger sibling of The Standard’.

The hotel’s 125 rooms come in a range of options, but with a king bed as a minimum. The smallest known is the Cosy King room, at 21m2. The largest room type is the 48m2 Suite Spot with views across the city. Guests also have access to a rooftop space which offers Mexican market food to go with a beverage.

There appears to be co-working/lounging space in public areas and while there is no specific mention of a dedicated meeting space, the group’s FAQs suggest that larger suites can be made available on request for meetings and events.

The on-site restaurant, Bang, offers all-day Thai street food from chef Justin Dingle Garciyya.

We checked the core values on the website as they give a sense of what to expect if you have not experienced the Fitzroy vibe.  StandardX promises to be:  Unconventional + Compassionate; Creative + Pragmatic; with Individuality + Teamwork.

And to further explain just how the vision might be translated into action and how this might work for guests, they add: “Commercial realities will always exist but we use these constraints to push, not limit, our creativity. We believe there is always a way to make it work. If we don’t have the solution, we dig deeper creatively to find one.”
