Artemus Group has plans to add a 77-room hotel and a theatre and music hall to the nine-acre Howard Smith Wharves footprint, in the space where Felons Barrel Hall now sits.
The development will also include a pool deck with an overwater pool and dining space.
“We believe this next chapter at Howard Smith Wharves will play a central role in the Brisbane 2032 Olympics and Paralympics, where the river is our stage to showcase Brisbane and Queensland to the world,” said founder and director of Artemus Group, Adam Flaskas.
“Our goal is to deliver something truly world-class for Brisbane; a destination that celebrates our city’s heritage, landscape and natural beauty.”
As part of the proposed works, existing event space will be improved and new event space added.
“This code assessable development application includes new and revitalised event spaces with plans to upgrade both the Rivershed and Bougainvillea House,” said CEO of Artemus Group, Luke Fraser.
“They will be reimagined into bigger and even more exciting spaces with increased capacity.
“There will also be a new event space planned within the new hotel.
“We are really proud of the scale, quality and diversity of events that the community choose to host at Howard Smith Wharves and this next stage ensures that we can continue to deliver exciting and world-class events.”
Fraser confirmed there would be no interruption to existing bookings while the DA is being assessed.
The development has sustainability built into it with Flaskas citing “world firsts in its design, materials, innovation and creativity”. The design includes rooftop gardens and façade greenery.
