The voco brand will make its Northern Territory debut in Darwin later this year, with the opening of the 87-room voco Darwin Suites in Darwin’s CBD.
Converted from a commercial office building, each room in voco Darwin Suites will have a kitchenette. The hotel will also feature meeting space, an all-day restaurant, fitness centre and outdoor pool.
Located on Mitchell Street, the property is under 2km from Darwin Convention Centre.
The hotel is the result of a deal between IHG and JH Group.
“We’re thrilled to welcome John Halikos and the JH Group to our IHG community, as together we bring the voco hotels brand to Darwin in a landmark agreement that marks a significant milestone in our regional growth strategy,” said IHG’s director of development for Australasia and the Pacific, Cameron Burke.
“The rapid expansion of our voco brand through voco Darwin Suites and many other outstanding properties continues to be driven by its adaptable upscale proposition, appealing to owners seeking both asset versatility and flexibility in market.”
Meanwhile, in Queensland, the Holiday Inn brand will return to Townsville, the largest city in Northern Australia, in early 2026.
The Holiday Inn Townsville will take over the existing Madison Plaza Townsville, after an agreement between the property’s owner, Luxora Hotels, its new independent management company, La Vie Hotels and Resorts, and IHG.
The 93-room hotel is in the Townsville CBD and is 2km from the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre.
The property will go through significant refurbishment before it transitions to the Holiday Inn brand.
Alongside a restaurant, the Holiday Inn Townsville will have extensive meeting space.
“As part of the world’s largest brand family, we expect Holiday Inn to resonate with domestic and international travellers to Townsville and Far North Queensland more broadly,” said Burke.
“Queensland is in an exciting growth phase and this latest announcement continues our broader regional expansion strategy.
“It has been announced that several Olympic events will be held in Townsville and this, combined with the city serving as a strategic hub for industries including mining, energy and defence contributes to Townsville’s thriving economic and tourism landscape.”
