Sydney’s convention centre has announced the venue manager for its new large-scale venue, The Cutaway in Barangaroo.

Jack Weatherby-Fell will manage the unique space on behalf of ICC Sydney, with his appointment marking a return to the business.

Weatherby-Fell joined ICC Sydney shortly after its opening, in mid-2017, as an event planner, and left the venue at the end of 2024, after ascending to manager of event planning.

Now, following nearly a year and a half out west as head of events for Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, Weatherby-Fell has returned to Sydney to head up The Cutaway.

“Jack’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for The Cutaway,” said ICC Sydney’s CEO, Adam Mather-Brown.

“Jack’s leadership, experience and commitment to excellence will help us realise the venue’s mission to make a difference.”

Weatherby-Fell will have support from ICC Sydney’s GM of operations, Lynell Peck, as well as The Cutaway’s just-appointed AV manager, Ricky Joseph, another returning team member, who takes up his new position following a departure from Harry the hirer. Joseph spent eight years as an AV floor manager at ICC Sydney, from the centre’s pre-opening period until mid-2024.

“Jack brings deep operational expertise and a collaborative approach that will strengthen The Cutaway’s delivery capability,” said Peck.

“His leadership will be invaluable as we continue to elevate the client and visitor experience at this iconic venue.”

With The Cutaway able to host events of up to 2,000 attendees, Weatherby-Fell’s previous experience delivering large-scale events at the convention centre, including SXSW Sydney, Sydney International Boat Show, Salesforce World Tour and the FIFA Women’s World Cup Convention, will be an asset in his new position.

“It’s an honour to step into this role at such a remarkable venue. The Cutaway is unlike any other space in Sydney, and I’m looking forward to working with our clients and partners to deliver events that inspire, connect and leave a lasting legacy,” he said.

Located underneath Barangaroo Reserve, against a soaring sandstone wall, The Cutaway has just undergone a significant renovation to improve its capabilities as an event space. The venue spans approximately 5,000m2 across two levels.

The Cutaway will reopen for business events in August.

ICC Sydney was announced as the venue’s operator last month.
