Convention Trailblazer Grant opens in Brisbane
The Lord Mayor’s Convention Trailblazer Grant has opened in Brisbane as the city looks to draw more business events.

Running annually since 2017, the grant provides financial support for academics and industry experts to attend international conferences and congresses with the view to bringing them to Brisbane in future years.

Grant recipients can receive up to $5,000. The program is managed by Brisbane’s convention bureau, which is part of Brisbane Economic Development Agency (BEDA).

The program has netted six event wins for Brisbane to date, worth $9 million in economic impact for the city.

“Through this program, Brisbane can collaborate with our city’s most talented, connected, and knowledgeable professionals to support our business events pipeline and help secure future events across industries,” said Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner.

“Brisbane is fast becoming the destination of choice for events, with conventions and business conferences a key part of the city’s visitor economy.”

Anthony Ryan, CEO of BEDA highlighted the ongoing importance of continuing to win international congresses for the city.

“Securing leading international conferences and conventions will continue to advance Brisbane’s business event credentials while also cultivating a legacy of global connectedness and evolving and exciting destination appeal,” he said.

BEDA and its industry partners won 69 new business events for Brisbane in the last financial year, which are collectively worth $71 million in economic impact for the city over the coming years.

Applications for the Trailblazer Grant close at midnight on February 25, 2024.

Applications can be completed via BESA’s Choose Brisbane website.
