The multi-faceted agency works across business events, major events, tourism and destination marketing, investment attraction and business and industry sector growth.
BEDA’s support for major events throughout the year injected $411 million into the economy. Significant events for the city included the British and Irish Lions Tour, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo – currently shortlisted for an Australian Event Award – the NRL Magic Round, which the city will now host until 2032, and Bluey’s World, which will stay in the city until 2028, following an extension to its residency.
The agency’s destination marketing activities drove $304 million of economic activity, while investment attraction and business growth had the largest impact, valued at $1.5 billion.
“Every result like this builds a stronger, more prosperous Brisbane as we look towards 2032 and beyond,” said Brisbane’s Lord Mayor, Adrian Schrinner.
“Behind these numbers are real jobs for Brisbane locals, more customers walking through the doors of our small businesses and more visitors filling our hotels, cafes and restaurants,” Schrinner said.
“When we bring major events and new investment to Brisbane, it is our residents who feel the benefit in the work it creates and the opportunities it opens up close to home.
BEDA’s CEO, Anthony Ryan, called Brisbane’s momentum “extraordinary”.
“Our role is to keep bringing the right people together to turn that momentum into jobs, growth and lasting economic value,” said Ryan.
“We’re proud of what we’ve achieved this year, but our work doesn’t stop here. We’re focused on creating long-term value for Brisbane.”
Meanwhile, BEDA’s chair, Paul Spiro, touted the benefits of working together.
“Brisbane works best when business, government and industry pull in the same direction,” said Spiro.
“BEDA plays a unique role in making that happen, bringing together the expertise, relationships and leadership needed to unlock opportunities for the city.
“These record results show what Team Brisbane can achieve when we work as one, and the impact is far greater than any organisation could deliver alone.”
