Opening date set for Powerhouse Parramatta

The $915 million cultural institution in Western Sydney will open in November, with several event spaces.

The museum, situated beside the Parramatta River, will open to the public for the first time on November 7.

“Powerhouse Parramatta is a museum built for the future, where local knowledge meets global perspectives,” said Powerhouse CEO, Lisa Havilah.

“We are thrilled to be opening our doors this November with five world-class exhibitions and a program that is as bold and diverse as the communities it serves.”

Alongside having more than 3,000 objects on display when it opens, Powerhouse Parramatta will offer seven unique event spaces.

The largest will be able to host up to 972 in theatre, with retractable seating, 800 for cocktail events or 540 for banquets.

Meanwhile the light-filled Presentation Space 7 can accommodate 600 in theatre or for cocktails and seated dinners for 400.

The indoor and outdoor ING Pavilion and rooftop garden has space for up to 250 in theatre or for standing events and can seat 200 for dinners banquet style.

The more intimate ground-level terrace can banquet 90, do cocktail events for 150 or conference 104 pax.

Powerhouse Parramatta also offers a 55-seat cinema and the Vitocco Family Kitchen, a flexible space for up to 200. which can be used for cooking demonstrations and has broadcasting capabilities.

“Powerhouse Parramatta will give Western Sydney a cultural institution on a scale it deserves and help cement Parramatta as a major new cultural and tourism destination that will draw visitors from across Australia and around the world, while creating jobs and supporting local businesses across Western Sydney.”
