Work begins on major expansion of Novotel Geelong
Construction has started on a hotel tower that will more than double the capacity of Novotel Geelong.

The $75 million 11-storey tower will add 134 rooms to Novotel Geelong’s current 109 rooms and will make the hotel Geelong’s largest upon completion, with a total of 243 rooms.

The new tower, sitting next door to the original hotel, will include 15 apartment suites.

The tower will also add a 125-seat restaurant and more event space to the property – once the expansion is completed, Novotel Geelong will offer 1,200m2 of event space across both existing and new venues.

“Geelong is undergoing an incredible transformation, and we see an exciting future ahead for the city as both a visitor destination and a business hub,” said Ricky Jeffs, CEO of  ERDI Group, which owns the hotel.

“By creating Geelong’s largest and most impressive hotel, we’re not only elevating the Novotel Geelong experience but also making a long-term commitment to supporting the city’s growth and its thriving tourism economy.

“This expansion is about future-proofing the hotel, ensuring we can meet the needs of business and leisure travellers for decades to come.”

The hotel is located just a couple of blocks along the waterfront from Geelong’s new convention centre, Nyaal Banyul, which is expected to open in the middle of 2026.

“Novotel Geelong has always been a place people love to stay, and this new tower will take the hotel to the next level,” said Accor’s COO for the Pacific, Adrian Williams.

“It will put Geelong firmly on the map as one of Australia’s best destinations for conferences, events and tourism.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be part of this landmark project with our long-term partner ERDI, whose vision and investment continue to play a pivotal role in shaping Geelong’s tourism and hospitality scene.

“This project is a true reflection of the incredible energy and growth the city is experiencing.”

The new hotel tower is expected to open in May 2027.
