Flights between Perth and Newcastle in regional New South Wales are set to begin on September 8, operating three times a week, on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays. No other airline currently services this route.
Meanwhile, QantasLink is also adding a direct Perth-Hobart service, which will begin on September 26 and operate year-round, except in May, June and August. Flights will depart Mondays, Fridays and Sundays. Virgin Australia offers the only other direct service between the two destinations.
Both routes will operated on Airbus A319 aircraft which have 150 economy seats.
The services will provide better access for interstate delegates to conferences in all three destinations.
“We’re really proud to continue our support for Western Australia’s resource and tourism sectors, with our newest QantasLink routes linking Perth to Hobart once more and Perth to Newcastle for the first time,” said QantasLink CEO, Rachel Yangoyan.
“These direct services will not only boost inbound visitors to WA but offer more opportunities for those working in the resource sectors across the country with improved options for their travel.”
Kate Holsgrove, Perth Airport’s chief commercial and aviation officer, said the new services were a culmination of collaboration between the airline, Perth Airport, Newcastle Airport, Destination NSW, Hobart Airport, Tourism Tasmania and Tourism WA.
“The introduction of new domestic services shows Qantas Group’s commitment to Western Australia and growing its network into Perth Airport, Australia’s western gateway.
“The new routes will provide a convenient option for both business and leisure travellers.”
