With 10 hotels in Melbourne, including The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne, W Melbourne, the Westin Melbourne and Le Meridien Melbourne, Marriott is expecting all of its Melbourne properties to be full on Friday night too.
The hotel group reports occupancy is up six per cent for its Melbourne properties for the same time last year with the average daily rate per room rising by double figures.
“The majority of growth is driven through international travel, with the largest proportion of our guests coming from the USA,” said Marriott’s area vice president for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, Jason Nuell.
“International room nights increased 25 per cent year on year to almost two thirds of stays, highlighting the growing international appeal of the sporting event to our traveller base.”
The F1 Grand Prix has a slightly higher attendee capacity in 2025 and is expected to break its attendance record again this year.
Marriott has added to its portfolio of properties in Melbourne significantly in the last few years with the openings of the AC Hotel Melbourne Southbank, The Ritz-Carlton, Le Meridien, the W and the Marriott Hotel in the Docklands all opening since 2020.
Melbourne is currently Australia’s largest hotel market, making Marriott’s sell-out more impressive.
