$20 million in upgrades for Melbourne Park
The inner-city sports and events precinct in Melbourne has completed $20 million in works delivering improvements for attendees and sportspeople.

Melbourne Park hosts the Australian Open tennis grand slam each January while also offering venue space for business events, concerts and other sports through the rest of the year.

Amongst the recent upgrades of note for event organisers and those organising corporate hospitality are the full redesign and refurbishment of each of the 31 private suites on Rod Laver Arena, a refurbishment of the Federation Cup Room and the weatherproofing of the rooftop bar and restaurant at Rod Laver Arena, called Upper Deck, with a new adjustable shelter over the venue.

The retractable roof at John Cain Arena has also been brought up to the same standard as the roofs on Rod Laver and Margaret Court Arenas.

“These works cater for the future here at Melbourne and Olympic Parks, with a busy events schedule, seven-day-a week venues and major sporting and entertainment events planned throughout 2025,” said Melbourne and Olympic Parks chief operating officer,  Megan O’Reilly.

“We are committed to being the gold standard for live events in Victoria, and these upgrades deliver on that promise, ensuring an exemplary experience for our guests, players and hirers.”

A dedicated function venue, CENTREPIECE, which opened in 2021, is also onsite at Melbourne Park, available for hire year-round outside of the Australian Open period.

The precinct also received nearly a billion dollars of major works in three stages over the decade to 2021, aimed, in part, at ensuring the Australian Open remained in Melbourne.

The major global tournament is now locked in for the city until 2046.
