A second Calile Hotel wins approval in Noosa Heads
The company behind the acclaimed Calile Hotel in Brisbane will develop a similar hotel in Noosa Heads after the local council granted planning approval this week.

The 186-room property proposed by Calile Malouf Investments will be the first five-star property to debut on the Sunshine Coast in more than 30 years.

While TFE Hotels operates The Calile Hotel in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, it is understood no operator and no name has been selected for the Noosa property.

Work is expected to commence on the project site, a 2.4 hectare parcel of land beside the Noosa River, in January 2025. Echoing The Calile Hotel in Brisbane, the architects have designed a four storey neutral-toned building with a rooftop vegetable garden, solar panels, underground car parking, a resort pool and hospitality space as major features.

It is estimated the hotel will boost the local economy by more than $300 million and will create 60 jobs during construction and up to 100 equivalent full-time positions when opened. It is expected to open in 2028.

While there were some objections in the local community, it won the unanimous vote of the seven local councillors.

Supporters of the development argued that the area badly needed another five-star property because the town was becoming over-touristed by day trippers who occupied most of the parking spots around Hastings Street but did not stay overnight or contribute much to the local economy.

The new hotel, which will have a similar-sized meetings and events capacity as The Calile Brisbane, will boost the potential for business events, including luxury incentive programs on the Sunshine Coast.

While popular with domestic visitors, Noosa is also known in the international market with figures showing international visitors to the town spent $113.3 million during the year to March 2024.
