The venue, which closed out its first full year in business in June, will host both the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) meeting and plumbing gathering, The Advantage Conference 2024, this week.
Both conferences will deliver legacy outcomes for Wellington.
The APNIC meeting is looking to attract more young people with a program that takes them into account and Victoria University has sponsored 20 IT students to attend the conference.
Meanwhile, the plumbing conference, run by Laser Plumbing and Electrical in New Zealand and O’Brien Electrical and Plumbing Group in Australia will see 80 delegates provide plumbing and electrical upgrades to the Wellington base of the Life Flight Trust.
Business Events Wellington’s manager Irette Ferreira says the existence of Tākina makes it possible for the city to host these two meetings at the same time.
“We are delighted to welcome both conferences to the capital and value the efforts both organisations have made to create positive impacts for our city,” she said.
Ferreira told micenet in our February magazine how the convention centre has changed the conversation with event organisers and owners considering Wellington – moving discussions away from how to make a conference work logistically in the city and towads deeper conversations about impact.
“We’re not talking about the hygiene factors, we can tick them, they’re done. We’re talking about why would you bring your meeting here and what do we have in Wellington that can enhance what you’re trying to do and how can you help us as a city enhance what we’re trying to do,” she said.
“So, it’s a different conversation.”
