The pledge formalises a commitment from the events industry to reach net zero carbon emissions from events by 2050.
The initiative was launched at global climate conference COP26 in Glasgow in 2021 with more than 100 signatories. The movement now has more than 700 stakeholders between signatories, supporters, contributors and others.
ASM Global manages more than 400 venues around the world, from stadiums to arenas, exhibition venues and convention centres.
In Australia and New Zealand ASM Global managed venues include ICC Sydney, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Cairns Convention Centre, Darwin Convention Centre and Te Pae Christchurch. The group also manages some entertainment venues locally.
“We are delighted to welcome ASM Global as a signatory to the Net Zero Carbon Events Pledge,” said James Rees, president of the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) which oversees the Net Zero Carbon Events movement on behalf of the industry.
“ASM Global’s extensive experience and leadership will further contribute to advancing our efforts.
“Their participation not only underscores the urgency of addressing climate change but also sets a powerful example for other venue operators around the world to follow.
“ASM Global’s involvement will undoubtedly help to propel our initiative forward.
“Their expertise and influence are of great importance as we work together to create a sustainable future for the business events industry.”
ICC Sydney remains the only Australian venue in the ASM Global portfolio to have individually signed the pledge. The Sydney venue also supports the initiative financially as one of the green tier contributors.
