The business has casinos, hotels and event space in three capital cities – Crown Melbourne, Crown Sydney and Crown Perth.
The National Economic Contribution Report, put together by consulting firm Mandala Partners, details where the massive contribution comes from – ranging from a sizeable tax contribution to being Australia’s largest hospitality employer.
Crown Resorts pays $527 million in tax every year and supports the employment of nearly 30,000 people either directly or through its supply chains.
The company spends over $1 billion per year with Australian suppliers, 83 per cent of which are small or medium sized businesses.
TastyOne is one of those businesses, supplying Crown Melbourne with fresh fruit and vegetables from Australian farms for more than 10 years.
“Working with Crown has meant we have been able to hire more staff and provide certainty to family-owned and operated farms from Gippsland in Victoria to Finley in NSW and Lancelin in Western Australia,” said TastyOne founder Michael Santalucia.
The report also shows that 10 per cent of all Certificate III hospitality students in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth trained at Crown College.
“The release of Crown’s first National Economic Contribution Report cements our role in society as a generator of growth and entertainment for our cities and regions,” said Crown Resorts CEO Ciarán Carruthers.
“Dollars aside, what stands out about the report is how much we invest in people.
“Additionally, through our community partnerships, Crown has donated $83 million and supported 100 organisations with thousands of goods and countless hours of volunteer time each year, providing crucial support to Australian communities in need.
“We are incredibly proud of the role we play in supporting and driving the recovery of the tourism and hospitality industries, and I am particularly proud of the work our team does in making an impact on the broader economy,” Carruthers said.
Blackstone acquired Crown in June 2022 and has succeeded in returning the Melbourne and Sydney complexes to suitability for holding casino licences after years of non-compliance with regulatory standards.
While Crown is Australia’s largest hospitality employer, the business recently announced it was cutting around 1,000 jobs.
