Crown Sydney achieves 6 Star Green Star rating
Crown Sydney has become the first hotel in Australia to achieve a 6 Star Green Star rating in the “Design & As Built” category, which certifies the environmental design of a new building and that the design is carried through its construction.
“The Australia-first accolade is a testament to Crown’s investment in constructing not only a state of the art building with a world leading hotel, spa, food, beverage and entertainment options, but one which also reflects our commitment to environmentally sustainable operations,” said Sarah Adams, Crown Resorts’ chief government and external affairs officer.
“We remain committed to ensuring our environmental sustainability is front of mind across every aspect of our operations at Crown.”
Amongst its environmental credentials, Crown Sydney uses Sydney Harbour to dissipate heat, removing the need for cooling towers, has a solar array onsite and harvests rainwater for use around the complex.
“It’s wonderful to see Crown’s commitment to sustainable building practices aligning with other buildings in the 6 Star Green Star certified Barangaroo South precinct,” said the CEO of the Green Building Council of Australia, Davina Rooney.
“We hope this project inspires other hotel groups across Australia.”
New glamping tents launched at Parklands Resort Mudgee
Fifteen new glamping tents, complete with four poster beds and ensuites, have been launched at Parklands Resort Mudgee, which also has considerable conference facilities.
Known as Mudgee Retreats, each eco-friendly canvas tent comes with its own private deck. The retreats join the existing, more traditional accommodation offering on the property, which stands at around 70 rooms.
“After seeing an increase in demand for sustainable and immersive travel experiences, we developed Mudgee Retreats at Parklands Resort Mudgee as an alternative option for corporate travellers looking for an authentic glamping experience in the heart of Mudgee,” said Marianne Ossovani, Head of hotels, tourism and leisure at Elanor Investors Group, which owns the property.
“Our Retreats are located a stone’s throw away from the historic town centre and close to some of the region’s best wineries and restaurants, giving corporate and incentive guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in the beauty of Mudgee and then relax at the end of the day in the ultimate comfort. We’re thrilled to finally be opening these retreats and look forward to seeing guests enjoy the experience.”
The hotel has five conference spaces on site, including an auditorium which can seat up to 470 people. Two of the other spaces can seat up to 164 and 115 attendees respectively.
IHG signs another new-build hotel on the Sunshine Coast
The Sunshine Coast is to get a second Holiday Inn property in 2028, with IHG Hotels and Resorts to bring the Holiday Inn & Suites brand to Caloundra.
A Hotel Inn Express and Suites opened in Maroochydore in 2022.
The new Caloundra property will have 160 rooms, including 33 suites, meeting spaces and a rooftop restaurant and sky bar.
The hotel will be part of a mix-used development from Felix Capital.
