To celebrate its first decade, SKYCITY Convention Centre gives 10 reasons why it continues to be a leading venue of choice.


  1. Opened on August 2, 2004, as NZ’s only custom-built fit-for-purpose convention facility. The two levelled, 5370 square metre building offers a wide range of different spaces to accommodate any type of function.
  2. The SKYCITY Convention Centre has held more than 6500 events with over one million visitors over the past 10 years. This type of experience is undoubtedly an important factor in the organisation’s success.
  3. As a function space the SKYCITY Convention Centre is consistent in delivery to all clients, including international visitors. They have built strong ties with professional associations and significant NZ and international organisations. Some highlights have been hosting the annual Microsoft Tech Ed for 2000 deelgates, ASFA in 2008, the 2009 World Pilot & RANZOG conventions, Count Financial 2010, The World Dairy Congress in 2011 and the World Small Animal Veterinary Congress in 2013.
  4. The centre has a strong relationship with the medical industry and has managed hundreds of medical conferences over the past 10 years, including congresses for anaesthetists, anaesthesiologists, dentists, surgeons, physicians, neurologists, cardiologists, and veterinarians to name a few.
  5. SKYCITY Convention Centre prides itself on having the best convention food in Auckland, with a flexible catering team that deliver to all of its clients’ needs and desires.
  6. The spaces inside the convention centre can accommodate all types of events. It has the capacity for up to 1700 guests (meeting), 1000 guests (banquet), 2000 guests (cocktail), and exhibition space for 150 trade booths.
  7. As the convention centre’s birthday approaches the centre looks forward to releasing new and improved catering products, presentations and packages, including new menu ideas and flavours.
  8. The convention centre is located in the heart of the Auckland CBD, in short proximity to a wide range of bars and restaurants, theatres, tourist attractions and accommodation.
  9. SKYCITY Grand Hotel and SKYCITY Hotel are located right beside and opposite the convention centre. Both hotels can cater to all accommodation needs to any out of town guests. With such a great location, it’s ideal for any visitors spending time at the convention centre.
  10. The SKYCITY Convention Centre has big and exciting plans for the future. Preparation is currently underway for the New Zealand International Convention Centre that will open in 2018 across the road from the existing location.  Further information will be released soon as plans develop.
