Voco-motion as new hotel set for St Kilda Rd precinct
One of Melbourne’s tree-lined transport arteries, St Kilda Road, is to add another hotel in South Melbourne’s business precinct.

Announced mid-pandemic with an estimated opening date of 2023, developers paused the project, but it is now back on the drawing board and set to open in 2025 as a 172-room upscale hotel managed by IHG. Voco South Melbourne will be the third local Voco and the seventh in Australia.

Set less than three kilometres from the CBD, with a Dorcas St frontage, it is in an area with few international hotels, despite the number of offices nearby.

The development of the underground Anzac Station, part of the state government under construction Metro Tunnel, and its ground level tram hub adds to the appeal of a hotel that is effectively a short walk to a train or two tram routes into city restaurants and entertainment. For business events delegates, the hotel will be less than 3km from Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. It is also a short tram ride in the other direction to the botanic gardens or the popular Toorak Road South Yarra eateries.

Voco will be part of a 20-storey mixed-use development which will include luxury residences with views to the bay, the city and across the Shrine of Remembrance to Melbourne’s parklands. The building will also have more than 2,200m2 of innovative co-working and meeting space.
