The international exhibition sector association has opened applications for its future leaders program.

The Next Generation Leadership Grant initiative from UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, offers five places to members of the exhibitions industry that have worked in the sector for no more than a decade.

Following its tried and tested formula, the grant will see the successful participants delve into the 2025 “mission” – “innovative, unconventional formats to inspire the next evolution of event models”.

One of the requirements to apply for the seven-month program is to submit a video discussing ideas for the mission and unpack why the applicant wants to join the program from a personal and professional perspective.

“There has never been a better time for fresh talent to step forward and rethink exhibition formats,” said UFI’s managing director and CEO, Chris Skeith OBE.

“The NGL Programme offers a unique platform to challenge conventions and shape the future of events. I urge industry leaders to put forward their best, and I challenge bright minds everywhere: step up and redefine exhibitions.”

With applications for the grant closing on April 3, successful applicants will be announced later in April and the five participants will meet in person during the UFI European Events Week in Thessaloniki, Greece in early June.

Throughout the program, participants will engage with each other virtually, and with UFI, mentors and alumni of the grant.

The program will culminate in the presentation of the group’s ideas at the UFI Global Congress in Hong Kong in November.

“The NGL Grant is not just about recognising talent but also about creating space for emerging leaders to experiment and drive change,” said UFI’s COO, Adeline Vancauwelaert.

“The best ideas often come from fresh perspectives and we can’t wait to see how this year’s winners challenge the way we think about exhibitions.”

Previous participants in the program from Australia have included Lesley Gurney from ICC Sydney and Amy Saleh from Hannover Fairs Australia.
