With the national winners across all categories of the Australian Tourism Awards announced at a dinner at Adelaide Convention Centre on Friday night, the 108-room Peppers Silo property with meeting space for just 120 took home the gold in the business events category.
On LinkedIn the hotel said it was “absolutely thrilled” to take home not just the business events category but the gold in the 4-4.5 star deluxe accommodation category.
The owner of Peppers Silo, Errol Stewart, has proposed a $20 million convention centre adjacent to the hotel with capacity for 400-600 pax.
Darwin Convention Centre took the silver in the business events category while Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) took the bronze.
Other finalists – which were state and territory winners from around the country – were Adelaide Convention Centre, Cedar Creek Lodges – now Tamborine Mountain Glades – in Queensland’s Scenic Rim, Hotel Realm in Canberra and Pullman Bunker Bay Resort in Western Australia’s Margaret River region.
There was no business events finalist from New South Wales.
Darwin Convention Centre said on LinkedIn that it was “honoured and incredibly proud” to win silver and, like Peppers Silo, credited the passion and dedication of their team.
Meanwhile MCEC’s chief executive, Natalie O’Brien AM said the venue was “extremely proud” to be named one of the nation’s best business events venues.
“Our progressive sustainability practices, cutting-edge technology, vibrant menu that celebrates Melbourne’s diverse culinary scene and team of experts, makes MCEC an ideal partner to bring your vision to life.
“This achievement is testament to our team’s unwavering commitment to delivering world-class events and create meaningful experiences for our customers and visitors.”
